« Storytelling impedence mismatch | Main | It's coming. »

I was not in possession of all the pertinent facts

A short parable in two acts:

Dad: "Hey Joe, can you take a look at my mobile phone? It gave me an error about not being able to charge."

Me: "Sure. When did you get the error?"

Dad: "Last night."

Me: "Okay."

(I proceed to test the charger, download manuals from Motorola, call Cingular tech support, call around to find replacement charger and batteries, etc.)

- Later That Same Evening -

Me: "I'm not sure what's wrong with it. I think you need a new charger and/or battery. There's a little corrosion on the charging contacts, so we could try cleaning them off."

Dad: "Well, they're probably corroded because I dropped the phone into the saltwater tank last night."

I think this is equivalent of filing a bunch of crashing bugs and then having my developer tell me, "oh, yeah, the code I checked in last night is total crap."

I need a vacation.

So Joe, did your parents know that a condition of you moving in was having their every foible and misstep reported and published?
Monday nite I had a similar problem. I was faced with a math quandary that I didn't understand at my bowling league....the handicap factor just made no f***ing sense. And this is my bag, man! It turns out that I had been denied some critical need-to-know information, and once I had this info (the handicap is cumulative), the quandary resolved itself. I felt better. Then I drank a beer.
well, rog, would you rather have me tell stories involving my parents, or stories involving you?
Stories about my parents, preferably.
Stories involving me would be good, but I have no foibles and rarely misstep.
"but I have no foibles and rarely misstep." are you daring me to disprove that statement?
Stick to mom and dad, bro. It's funny stuff. PS better you than me :)
We miss you, Bork -- Hurry back soon!!!!
Bring it. I am fully confident that I can rationalize any action or position I have ever taken.
I don't know about you, but I'm pretty confident that I can rationalise many things that are not rational.
